Path of Exile 2 – GGG’s reign is set to last

Grinding Gear Games returns with a sequel that aims not to reinvent Path of Exile, but to refine it into something sleeker, more deliberate, and visually stunning.

After years of updates, leagues, and experimentation, Path of Exile 2 emerges as a spiritual evolution rather than a clean slate, that respects the hardcore ARPG formula while modernizing nearly every aspect of it. With its revamped campaign, new ascendancy classes, and meticulous combat polish, this sequel looks set to continue PoE’s reign as one of the most complex and rewarding loot-driven games on the market.

You’ll enjoy Path of Exile 2 if you like games built on the following pillars:

✅ Deep, flexible build customization: twelve new ascendancy classes, extensive passive skill trees, and countless itemization paths make every character unique.

✅ Deliberate, impactful combat: improved animations, skill gem reworks, and smoother pacing bring weight and readability to each encounter.

✅ A dark, atmospheric world: PoE2 preserves the grim tone of Wraeclast while introducing cinematic storytelling and richer environmental detail.

✅ Endless replayability: seasonal leagues, randomized maps, and complex endgame systems ensure no two playthroughs feel the same.

✅ No pay-to-win: monetization remains cosmetic-first, with no gameplay advantages locked behind paywalls. During BETA, the cost of entry is around 30 euros, but you receive the equivalent in shop currency, which is enough to buy all the convenience (stash tabs!) you’ll need.

Areas of improvement or aspects which may deter prospective players are:

📉 Overwhelming complexity: while veterans will relish the depth, newcomers may still find the learning curve punishing. Even with improved onboarding, the vast array of systems, including crafting, remains intimidating and many off-meta builds still seem too punishing to play, even during the campaign.

📉 Time investment required: progress in Path of Exile 2 is measured in dozens (sometimes hundreds) of hours per league. It’s a game that can demand full attention if you’re at higher level and is quick sessions here are there may not be sufficient to make tangible progress.

📉 Server stability and performance: PoE2’s ambitious scope and graphics is testing GGG’s infrastructure. DDoS attacks disturbed patch 0.2 and optimisation continues to be a pain point despite GGG’s best efforts.
